For decades Stephanie Alexander has been one of Australia's most regarded restaurateurs and cooking authors, but her new passion is getting kids into the garden and kitchen.

Stephanie says 'it was really a belief that you could change the habits of somebody once they had a hands on experience of actually growing something and being excited by the magic of growth".

She decided the battle ground for changing attitudes to food was the classroom - win the kids and you've gone a long way towards winning the war, saying "those habits once established at an early age are very likely to be there for life"

Stephanie launched the Kitchen Garden Foundation to primary schools, a programme that gets kids growing and learning about fresh veggies after harvesting the produce it's then into the kitchen for a home grown feast.

Stephanie Alexander is in Perth for Garden Week and is hoping to recruit more W.A schools to the Garden Foundation programme.
