HBF Playlist

Reporter: Cassie Silver

It's the playlist that's setting the pace for Perth's runners.

Adrian North from Curtin University says a soundtrack for training can be a major motivator, "if music is in time with the activity you're doing then it can improve your endurance about 15 percent in some cases."

HBF's Run for a Reason has found its own rhythm- creating a one of a kind list of songs for competitors.

25 tracks to keep runners on track.

Kicking off with Bruce Springsteen's born to run and getting "Happy" with Pharrell soon after.

Alicia Keys will help you over hurdles and Grease Lightening will, well make you go.

For runner Bianca Fitzsimmons, it's Katy Perry that gives her the push she needs.

"The songs have been strategically picked and mapped against the running route so as long as you keep your feet to the beat you'll cross the line in 1 hour 23 minutes so all you need to do us plug in and let the music move you."

And there's one song that's the driving force to the finish line, but we'll leave that one a secret.

Adrian says if you're not a fan of any of the tunes you can personalise your own playlist, "you need to be picking music that's going to keep the tempo of 150 to 170 steps per minute so you're going to have to pick something from your collection that's got that."

It's all about the rhythm helping you put one foot in front of the other - and when it comes to a fun run - what better way to get the party started.
