These two women live 17-thousand kilometres apart, but they now joined for ever thanks to a gift of life.

28 year old Englishwoman Paula Rowlett was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure 2 and a half years ago. She faced a life of dialysis, unless a new organ could be found. "All the family members had come forward for testing and all the blood groups were different. I have 3 brothers, two sisters, and my husband went forward, my brother in law went forward and we weren't having any luck."

On the other side of the world Paula's first cousin Lynley Everest had plans of her own, to save her cousin if she could and she proved a perfect match.

In a first for Royal Liverpool Hospital, Lynley donated a kidney to her desperate cousin -the operation a complete success.

Both women will remain in hospital for at least another month but they could be re-united in Australia if all goes to plan.
