Bucket List

On the surface, Racquel Watt seems to have it all - at 37, she has a loving partner and four great kids -- but Racquel is living a nightmare. After two liver transplants, she only has weeks to live.

Doctors told her recently she was going home to die and they said 'there's nothing more medically we can do for you -- it's better off you go home and spend the time you've got left with your children'.

Like many people, told their condition is terminal, Racquel got angry. "Why me, what did I do wrong? What did I do wrong in my past? I must have been bad in my previous life", she said.

Racquel and Angelo have been together for 18 years. Their four children are aged 16 down to 8; they live in Cobram, in country Victoria and have a peach farm just outside town. Disaster struck the family four months before Racquel's illness was diagnosed when their house burned down.

Racquel received her first liver transplant in June, 2010 but her body rejected it and she urgently needed another donated liver. Racquel was lucky enough to receive a second transplant a year ago but her immune system has again rejected it -- now all treatment has stopped.

Eldest daughter Madeline has been a mother to her two sisters, Shantay 13, and Angelina 8 and brother Sebastian 10 since she was 13. Her mother has been away in Melbourne for much of that time and so has her father. She has had to grow up quickly.

Country folk being country folk recently Cobram turned out for a ' Rockin' it for Racquel' weekend; dinner Saturday night at the Top Pub and a fund-raising function on the Sunday at the Bottom Pub with yours truly as guest speaker and auctioneer.

When Racquel was give the bad news and sent home to die she wrote down a bucket list. In recent weeks she has ticked off a lot of items: Holiday at Byron and Surfers, tick -- swim with dolphins, tick -- family portrait, tick -- landscaping and back decking, tick -- Rocking with Racquel, tick; -- Bon Jovi tickets, tick, -- hot air balloon ride, very soon, marry Ange: "I was hoping for my dream wedding but maybe/maybe not -- that's still on the cards, maybe", Racquel said.

Racquel's latest goal is to celebrate Christmas with her family.
