Some private schools had year 7 students in highs schools but now public schools will follow suit.

According to the experts, this is what parents need to know to prepare their kids:

Practice social skills - role play situations they might be faced with like how they should react if they're teased.

Communicate - talk to them about their feelings and expectations about their day.

Buddy Up - find your child someone else who's going to school so they can meet up on their first day.

Build their confidence and resilience at home - provide opportunities to take them out of their comfort zone before they start high school.

Attend orientation - Ensure your child knows the layout of the school, and who to go to if they have any problems.
