Council Rates

Homeowners across Perth have been hit with their annual council rates, and for one suburban council the bill is so large the residents are outraged.

Rates across WA are calculated using the Gross Rental Value (GRV), multiplied by the 'rate in the dollar' amount.

The GRV is set by the Valuer-General's Office. It's the yearly income a property would generate if rented. It's updated every three years.

The 'rate in the dollar' is set by the council when it decides its budget.

Below is a selection of councils across Perth and their average rate in the dollar amount.
