The Seven Network today announced Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins will join the reporting team on The Great Outdoors in 2005.

Jennifer's first report – a tour of her hometown Newcastle – will air Monday February 7, at 7.30pm.

Jennifer will become a regular presenter alongside the established team of intrepid travelers – Ernie Dingo, Andrew Daddo, Sophie Falkiner, Laura Csortan, Shelley Craft, Di Smith and Tom Williams.

“I'm very excited to be joining such a successful show as The Great Outdoors,” Jennifer said. ”This is my first official presenting job with Seven and I'm really looking forward to the experience. I've become quite used to traveling over the last 12 months, so it will great to continue my world adventures.”

Seven's Director of Programming and Production, Mr Tim Worner, said: “We are rapt that Jen chose Seven as the Network with which to pursue her television career."

“We introduced Jen to Australians with our first prime-time telecast of the Miss Universe quest final in 2004, and we can't wait to see the first of her stories on The Great Outdoors. She is a natural talent and we're looking forward to developing that with her over the coming years.”

In her first story for the popular travel program, Jen takes fellow reporter Laura Csortan on a personal tour of her hometown of Newcastle. Other assignments have taken her to Los Angeles and the current place she calls home, New York City.

Entering its 13th year on air, The Great Outdoors will kick off 2005 with a range of special themed shows.

On Monday, January 31, The Great Outdoors will go 'Around The World In One Hour', hosted by Andrew Daddo in Phuket, Thailand. After the devastating tsunami, Andrew discovers how much the locals need the support of tourists to help rebuild their city, and just how much Phuket still has on offer for travellers on any budget.

Then on Monday, February 14 there will be a special 'Holiday Romance' Valentine's Day episode packed full of romantic hotspots around the world, including Jennifer Hawkins showing us around her favourite spots in the Big Apple.

In 2005, The Great Outdoors will continue to search Australia and the world for bargain holiday deals as well as the hottest travel destinations, at home and overseas. Brand new resorts, exotic hideaways and special themed shows are all part of the plan to put more fun into travel. The next holiday adventure starts Monday at 7.30pm.
